SHORT HISTORY OF KARATE : - Gichin funakoshi introduced the basic concept of Karate into Japan from Okinawa in and, particularly since the s; the popularity of Karate has been increasing rapidly. The earliest origins of Karate as we know it today are somewhat vague due to the lack of documentation.

The traditional idea accepted by most authorities is that it started in India. Buddhist priest called in Chinese Drama (or Bhodidharma, as he is better known), wished to take his particular sect of Buddhism, called Zen, to the Chinese as a missionary venture .It was not uncommon for itinerant priests to be able to fight, as they would frequently be in danger on their wanderings from wild animals as well as men.

Forms of Chinese combat have been recoded as far back as BC. Bodi-Dharma is credited with being the founder of Chinese Kempo, mainly because he added the meditative practices of Yoga and Zen, making it a more complete system, as we know it today. Zen is inseparably linked with Karate and every Master of Karate seeks a more enlightened experience by studying Zen, in fact, all the major developments in Shorin Kempo were achieved by various priests, through the years.

Finally, the close connection between priests and medicine resulted in the discovery not only of vital spots on the human body where cures could be applied but also where Kempo attacks could be directed for the best results. From China, Kempo spread north to Mongolia, east to Korea and southeast to Okinawa. Eventually it reached Japan, where it became extremely popular after the Kamakura era (about AD ).

The soldier class, the Samurai, in particular welcomed both the combat forms and the Zen philosophy. The morality and mysticism of Zen Buddhism appealed to their sensibilities, but the real attraction was the way it provided them with a discipline, which made them capable of great endurance and excellence in fighting, by giving them the special psychological skills and insights into both them selves and their opponents.

At various times in History-for instance in again in A.D, in Okinawa-the authorities forbade the populace to use arms.

As a means of protection against the bandits, and sometimes even against the authorities, unarmed combat became widely taught. The schools, themselves usually confined to the temples, were nevertheless kept secret, because if discovered they would have been immediately wiped out by those in power. It was not until A.D; Master Gichin Funakoshi came from Okinawa to Tokyo and pioneered the modern system of Karate in Japan.

Born from many origins, there are today many schools of Karate, each with its own merits and perhaps its own faults. The word Karate, in its literal translation, means bare hand.
KYOKUSHIN :- Kyokushin is a style of stand-up, full contact karate, founded in by Korean-Japanese Masutatsu Oyama. "Kyokushin" is Japanese for "the ultimate truth." It is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training.

Kyokushin training consists of three main elements: technique, forms, and sparring. These are sometimes referred to as the three "K's" after the Japanese words for them: kihon (basics), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring). Kata is a form of ritualized self-training in which patterned or memorized movements are done in order to practice a form of combat maneuvering.

Sparring, also called kumite, is used to train the application of the various techniques within a fighting situation. Sparring is usually an important part of training in most Kyokushin organizations, especially at the upper levels with experienced students. In most Kyokushin organizations, hand and elbow strikes to the head or neck are prohibited.

However, kicks to the head, knee strikes, punches to the upper body, and kicks to the inner and outer leg are permitted. In some Kyokushin organizations, especially outside of a tournament environment, gloves and shin protectors are worn.

Children often wear headgear to lessen the impact of any kicks to the head. Speed and control are instrumental in sparring and in a training environment it is not the intention of either practitioner to injure his opponent as much as it is to successfully execute the proper strike. Tournament fighting under knockdown karate rules is significantly different as the objective is to down an opponent.

The history of Karate in Nepal is not so long. Just a few years ago Karate was considered as an illegal game. People used to be terrified even just to talk about it.

Struggling hard in those hardtime, "Kyokushin Karate Do " was established in B.S. under the National Sports Council with legal value.

International Karate Association appointed Shihan Jagat Gauchan as the Branch Chief of the Organization for Nepal during the time when none knew the term. He is the one and only one person to introduce and develop full-contact martial art in Nepal for the firsttime. After Mas Oyama's death, the International Karate Organization (IKO) split into many groups in Japan.

On the way of development and extension of kyokushin karate in Nepal, Nepal Kyokushin-Seishin kaikan karate Association (WKKO-Nepal)-Honbu Dojo was established in Kathmandu in under KANCHO SEISHIN IWASHITA, WORLD KYOKUSHIN KAI KARATE ORGANIZATION AND WORLD SEISHIN KAIKAN KARATE ORGANIZATION(WKKO). With effort of Shihan Mr. Ashok Kumar Shrestha (6 DAN Black Belt) was appointed as a Branch Chief for the Nepal Branch, Kathmandu.
